Michelle Comeaux Hernandez earned a bachelor of arts degree in religious studies with a minor in secondary education from Loyola University in 1990 and spent 15 years teaching high school in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. In 2010 Michelle earned a Master of Pastoral Studies in Pastoral Care and Counseling and a Master of Science in Counseling, also from Loyola University. A native of Lafayette, Michelle then returned to her roots and family and joined a local psychology practice in January 2011.
Michelle spent one year interning at Ursuline Academy in New Orleans in the counseling department, working with female high school students. In her second year of internship, Michelle worked at Family Service of Greater New Orleans on Canal Street. At Family Service, Michelle worked with under served children, adolescents, adults and families. Her favorite work there was co-facilitating a group for male domestic violence perpetrators. As a teacher at Holy Rosary High School in New Orleans from 2005-2010, Michelle taught and worked with students with Learning Differences, including many students in the spectrum of Aspergers and Autism. Michelle is a contributing author in The Vision of Catholic Youth Ministry: Fundamentals, Theory, and Practice by St. Mary’s Press.
Michelle continues to enjoy working with adolescents, but also takes a special interest in marriage and family counseling. Her interests include academics, behavioral concerns, childhood disorders, eating disorders, personality disorders, grief, depression, anxiety, anger management, parenting concerns, relationship issues, family systems, vocational/career concerns, multicultural issues and religion and spirituality.
